The “Forensic 3D VideoGrammetry Workshop” is directed towards investigators that need to perform the biometric measurements from evidence images and video, as well as measurements of crime and accident scenes. The ability to accurately and efficiently derive biometric measurements of people captured by CCTV cameras, accurately measure crime scenes and reconstruct accident scenes can profoundly benefit both law enforcement and private sector investigators. Stereo photogrammetry is a classical measurement technique accomplished with multiple photographs of the measured scene. The typical CCTV system will only capture video with one camera/per location. In mid 1990’s, Cognitech’s scientists have developed the VideoGrammetry technology which extends the classical stereo-photogrammetry to biometric and 3D measurements made from video recordings by surveillance cameras. Based on these scientific discoveries in image metrology, Cognitech’s AutoMeasure software was created to be used by forensic investigators. In this workshop, the investigators will experience hands-on utilization of the latest version of this Cognitech software, coupled with lectures on the foundations and the latest developments of this scientific method.

With the proliferation of the CCTV technology, criminal suspects are routinely captured by cameras, often as the crime is unfolding. The goals of the investigator here could include body measurements of the people in the crime scene, or measurements of involved vehicles for the purpose of identification, measurement of movements in the scene (e.g., true physical velocity and acceleration of objects), or accurate Geo-spatial/GPS positioning of the objects in the scene. Cognitech’s AutoMeasure software coupled with the recently released Cognitech PixL3GPS accomplish the above tasks accurately and with ease of use.

Commercial Roof-top Installation using the Conergy SolarFamulus Air

Conergy Canada will train workshop participants at CanSIA Solar Ontario 2012, Monday, May 14th at 9:00 AM Eastern Time, on its new aerodynamic mounting system for weight-limited industrial flat roofs, the Conergy SolarFamulus Air. By leveraging aerodynamic forces, the SolarFamulus Air reduces the ballast requirement for an entire array and the need for roof penetrations is typically eliminated. The SolarFamulus Air is the newest addition to Conergy’s mounting system portfolio. Developed by an aircraft construction engineer the lightweight mounting system benefits from optimum aerodynamics and minimum roof load: the principle is similar to that of the spoiler on a racing car, as the baffles help to significantly reduce vertical, lifting forces caused by wind. This means that the SolarFamulus Air’s aerodynamic shape together with its own weight and the use of minimal additional ballasting hold it in place on the roof – without any roof penetration. This makes it ideal for foil roofs or lightweight roofs.

Since many commercial flat roofs have weight limitations or do not have the structural strength to support conventional PV installations, until now this solar market segment has been significantly restricted. Six components, five step module installation, one tool

The Conergy SolarFamulus Air can be used not only on very thin roofs that cannot bear heavy loads but the installer also has the benefit of a high degree of flexibility and fast installation due to the small number of components. Only one tool is required to install the six individual components – and only five simple steps are required to attach the modules. This saves the installer material costs and time and the customer saves money.

Perfect ventilation for higher performance

In contrast to other flat roof systems available on the market the developers of the Conergy SolarFamulus Air have opted for an open construction. There are no closed “boxes” under the solar modules. In this way the wind can cool both the upper and under surfaces of the modules and the user is guaranteed maximum performance even at high temperatures.

Flat pitch for maximum use of the roof surface and high stability

The individual high quality components that have all been tested in a wind tunnel are built together to form a unified system: frame components are attached to the fixing rails and the wind baffles to create maximum stability. This helps to give a flat pitch of 15°. This not only reduces wind load and the need for additional ballasting but also reduces shadowing on the flat roof. This allows the installer to mount the rows of modules a short distance apart and so maximise roof surface utilisation.

Growth in Wireless Sector Will Benefit Aviat Networks

Sasha Cekerevac, co-editor for financial newsletter and web site Penny Stock Detectives, believes that, as more people shift their use away from the traditional personal computer and towards the tablet and the mobile phone, the companies that provide goods and services in the broadband wireless sector are poised to grow over the next decade. In his recent Penny Stock Detectives article, Cekerevac encourages readers to look at technology stocks in that area for accelerating potential in corporate earnings; in fact, he has searched the sector and found one with great potential.

Aviat Networks supplies wireless solutions to carrier providing Internet protocol (IP) networking expertise. The company has over 750,000 installed systems worldwide and looks to continue to grow.

“I like penny stocks that have an established base, but that are also looking to grow their corporate earnings over time,” says Cekerevac. “A growth plan is essential when looking to invest in technology stocks. Aviat just recently announced a deal with Basin Electric Power Cooperative, an electric utility. Aviat will supply Basin Electric with a complete system to replace its existing network. This multi-million-dollar deal will continue for more than 15 years, according to Aviat. While this won’t send the shares up immediately, this is a sign that the company’s corporate earnings will improve over the next decade, as its products and services are in demand, noted Cekerevac.

For the second quarter of 2012, the firm generated positive cash flow in its main businesses. The overall revenue number was down, but that was on the international side of the business. North American sales were $ 44.2 million in the second quarter, compared with $ 40.3 million in the prior year’s quarter. International revenue declined to $ 60.8 million from $ 75.0 million in the year-ago quarter. CEO and President Michael Pangia stated: “Our global team executed as planned and we overcame the challenges in Thailand from the recent flooding.” The company estimates third-quarter fiscal 2012 revenue to be in the range of $ 100 million to $ 110 million with gross margins of 29.5% to 30.5%.

As many technology stocks have rallied from the lows in 2011, so too has Aviat. Some consolidation was in order following the big move upwards, believes Cekerevac. I would like to see some more deals done to drive corporate earnings, but, over the long term, this company does seem to be in the right market, with a solid management team. While I wouldn’t advise buying this stock right now, I would certainly have it on my watch list for possible future consideration.
